AP101™ Primer-Bonding Agent – Mixing & Application Instructions
Surface adhesion standards and correct application methods for SPEEDLINER PRO™ coatings.
Product Classification
AP101™ is a 1K (one-component), single-pack primer/bonding agent. It is supplied as a ready-to-use product and requires no pre-mixing prior to application.
Tinting for Visual Reference (Optional)
- The primer may be tinted very lightly using black or grey pigment to provide a visual guide when applying to light-coloured surfaces
- Tinting should be minimal and used for reference only – it does not change the chemical properties
Primer Quantity Guidance
- Pickup Truck / LandRover Load Bed (4 – 5 ft): approx. 300 – 400 ml (light mist coat only)
- Panel Vans (bare plywood areas): 300 – 400 ml for medium load bed + slightly more for fresh plywood
- Household Paint Comparison: contains only a small amount more solvent than typical home paints
Approved Application Methods
AP101™ can be applied using the following equipment and techniques:
- Automotive spray gun (Cup or HVLP type)
- Nozzle/jet size: 1.4 – 1.6 mm
- Can also be applied by hand using a brush or roller for controlled surface coating
Application Standards by Substrate Type
- Sanded & painted substrates (including GRP/fibreglass): Apply a light/mist coat only
- Fresh, bare plywood (e.g., panel van floors or load areas): Apply a semi-wet, even coat
- Do not overload the primer – it should coat evenly without runs or sags
If Primer Runs or Sags
- Smooth out immediately using a brush
- Allow the affected area to dry for longer than the standard flash time before coating
- Never leave excess primer unsmoothed – this will delay curing and may affect adhesion
Top-Coating Window
- You may begin coating with SPEEDLINER PRO™ within 20 – 30 minutes
- The primer is ready for coating once tackiness is gone and you can walk on the surface while wearing overshoe protectors
- Do not wait longer than 2 hours before coating
- If more than 2 hours passes, apply a fresh light/mist re-coat of AP101™ before spraying the liner
Important Safety Instructions
- DO NOT kneel on primed floors during curing stages
- DO NOT mask primer bays unless those areas will remain uncoated
- Never apply bulk coats for strength testing – mist coats represent real-world performance
- Fast-cure plural systems are not related to AP101™ and should not be referenced for adhesion comparison
- Use only in suitable facilities with appropriate respiratory PPE and ventilation
Etch Primer Requirement for Metals
SPEEDLINER PRO™ Etch Primer should be applied on all bare metals before AP101™, including:
- Aluminium
- Galvanized Steel
- Other uncoated/bare metals
